This program is an automatic romanizer, i.e. it converts Japanese text (kanji, hiragana and katakana) into romaji (i.e. to the Roman alphabet). You can use it to know how to read Japanese text even if you do not know how the characters are read in this writing system.

What is romaji?
Romaji (ローマ字, rōma-ji) refers in Japanese to the "letters of Rome", i.e. the Roman alphabet (the writing system we use to write English, Spanish and most European languages), and is therefore the name by which we refer to the transcription system that transliterates the Japanese writing system into the Latin alphabet.
The two mots popular systems of Japanese romanization, are the Hepburn system (ヘボン式, Hebon-shiki) and the Japanese transliteration system (日本式, Nihon-shiki). This program uses the Hepburn system, since it is the most widely used system in the West (including Wikipedia).
